Photo of the Day - 17/08/2015 by Saurav Chowdhury

My mother moved to the UK around 20 years ago (just before I was born) from Kolkata, India and as a result has missed her own mothers birthday for all those years. Today she celebrated it for the first time with her since she left her birth home.

In the photo you can see a Skype call with my aunt back in India where my little cousin was throwing a tantrum because she wasn't here to celebrate her beloved grandmothers birthday.

The Sky Garden + Street by Saurav Chowdhury

Was booked to go to the Sky Garden at 20 Fenchurch Street (Walkie Talkie building), and after the disappointing cloudy weather and lack of solar eclipse in this part of England it was definitely nice to visit a beautiful place with a gorgeous view of the London skyline! I also got some street shooting done again as I hadn't gone out for a long time and the sun was shining finally as well as it being golden hour.

Durga Utsav + testing the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art lens by Saurav Chowdhury

Between the 1st and 5th of October this year, there was a Hindu cultural festival which celebrates the return of the goddess Durga. I've been going every year for the past 6 years and it's always an amazing experience with all the dancing, singing and plays that take place.

Recently I've been given the job as photographer for the event and got to play with my universities new Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art Series lens, which is what all the photos below have been taken with.
